News....

The Fourth of July is a time for family fun. Whether you are into tractor pulls, mud drags, or looking for a magnificent fireworks display the 112th Annual Diller Picnic is for you. Plan on bringing the entire family to Diller, Nebraska on July 3rd, 4th and 5th for these three family oriented days.

Kick off your holiday weekend early on Thursday, July 3rd with the Nebraska Bush Pullers Tractor Pull. The action will begin at the south end of Diller at 6:30pm. “Last year we increased the purse amount for pullers and gained more participants. We are looking at having even more tractors again this year and putting on a good show” says Doug Lottman, Chairman of the Diller Picnic Committee of the Diller Community Club.

Also on Thursday night, bring the kids for Dollar Night at the Richard’s Amusements Carnival. The rides will be one dollar per time, beginning at 7pm.  The KUTT/KWBE fireworks show by “All American Display” will start at 10pm on Thursday night and can be viewed from the picnic grounds, looking north towards the football field.

The Mid-States Mud-Draggers will return to the Diller Picnic for the 5th year in a row, but also on a new day. Plan to watch this exhilarating fun on Friday, July 4th starting at 10am. The group is looking for ATV’s, 4x4’s and snowmobiles. Registration is that day at 8am, but to get signed up in advance, contact Derek Kunc at 402.793.5544. Also on Friday evening at 8pm, there will be free entertainment in the park when the McClellan Sisters perform.

Saturday’s activities include the 17th annual Pasture Golf Tournament. All entries must pre-register with C&C Processing in Diller. A chicken barbecue by Bill’s Barbecue of Filley will be at the Diller Opera House starting at 5:30pm.

This year’s theme for the parade is “Holidays on Parade”; any entries that would like to register should contact Mildred Kotas at 402-793-5999 or download a parade entry form at http://diller-ne.com/paradeform.htm. The parade will be on Saturday, beginning at 7pm. Following the parade be sure to attend a special performance by the Homestead Harmonizers at the city park, which is also a free performance, sponsored by the Diller Community Foundation.

The weekend of fun will wrap up on Saturday night with a street dance at 9pm featuring, Dustin Evans and his band Goodtimes. Evan’s band includes drummer, Ned LeDoux, son of the late country legend Chris LeDoux. Dustin Evans’ brand of cowboy country music is quickly growing a large fan base throughout the Midwest and the United States. He has been the opening act for stars such as: Toby Keith, Neal McCoy and Big & Rich.

And as always the carnival will be running all three nights, along with the American Legion Bingo and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church food stand on the carnival grounds.
