Diller-Odell
School History
Diller Community Schools and
Odell Public Schools entered into a high school sports cooperative in the
1998-1999 school year. The two former rivals joined together in all high school
sports, which included football, volleyball, basketball and track. While the two
schools still competed against one another for two years in other high school
activities such as speech, music, quiz bowl and in junior high sports, the high
school sports cooperative led to a smoother merger when the schools consolidated
beginning with the 2000-2001 school year.
The Diller Eagles and the Odell Tigers had a number of common
traits. Location, size, familiarity, and school colors to name a few.
The
origin of the Diller-Odell mascot the “Griffin” is as simple as
combining the Eagle and the Tiger. The Griffin is a mythical
animal that has the upper body of an eagle and the lower body
of
a tiger or lion.
